Ending the Patchwork Approach to Wired & Wireless Outdoor Lighting
Cities implementing smart outdoor lighting solutions have run into an unfortunate challenge: Some situations are ideal for wireless communications and some require wired communications, which has meant deploying and controlling two separate, incompatible lighting networks in a kind of patchwork configuration. This presentation will discuss a standards-based approach that integrates wired and wireless control networking into a single platform for outdoor lighting. In addition to addressing the wired/wireless patchwork, such a standards-based platform could also provide important energy-saving techniques, such as constant lumen output and dynamic dimming, that optimize cities’ investments in their smart lighting systems.
