Like many of the smart home automation platforms shown at last week's CES show, Nest Lab's hot-selling Nest Learning Thermostat runs on embedded Linux. With Google's pending $3.2 billion acquisition of Nest Labs, the four-year old Palo Alto, Calif.-based firm should enjoy wider distribution and faster product development, while Google gains a foothold in home automation and the Internet of Things (IoT).
